Jeremiah 12: “When the Wicked Prosper – Learning to Walk with God”

Jeremiah 12

Introduction

Jeremiah asks a question many believers secretly ask:

Why does the way of the wicked prosper?” (Jer. 12:1).

This chapter teaches us how God responds when His faithful servant struggles with injustice, delay, and disappointment.

1. God Allows Honest Questions (v.1–4)

Jeremiah does not hide his pain. He brings it directly to God.

Faith does not mean silence.

True prayer includes lament and honesty. 👉 God prefers honest questions over hypocritical praise.

When life seems unfair, don’t walk away from God—talk to Him.

2. God Calls Us to Spiritual Endurance (v.5)

“If you have raced with men on foot and they have worn you out, how can you compete with horses?”

God tells Jeremiah:

Harder days are coming—prepare yourself.

God doesn’t always remove trials.

He strengthens His servants for greater challenges.

Small trials are training grounds for bigger callings.

3. Pain Can Come from the Closest People (v.6)

Jeremiah is betrayed by his own family.

Ministry pain is often relational pain.

Even Jesus was rejected by His own.

Don’t let betrayal make you bitter—let it make you dependent on God.

4. God Still Cares for His People (v.7–13)

Though God speaks of judgment, His heart is broken.

Discipline flows from love.

God grieves over the damage sin causes.

God’s silence or correction is never absence—it is care.

Conclusion

Jeremiah 12 teaches us:

  • It’s okay to question God.
  • It’s not okay to quit trusting Him.
  • God is shaping us for endurance, not comfort.

When the wicked prosper and the righteous suffer, remember:

God is still just, still present, and still working.

Let's Pray.

Out loving God, prepare us for the harder days. Teach us and give wisdom to depend and lean on you always. Increase our faith and trust you when our surroundings are not favourable to us.

In the name of Jesus, Aman.
