Sermon Title: “The Cross – The Center of Our Unity” Introduction The church in Corinth was gifted, growing, and spiritually active — but deeply divided. It was planted by Paul the Apostle in a wealthy, intellectual Greek city. Corinth loved: Wisdom Philosophy Public speakers Status and pride Sadly, those same values entered the church. So in Chapter 1, Paul addresses one core issue: When Christ is not the center, division begins. I. Our Call in Christ (1:1–9) Paul begins not with rebuke — but with reminder. (A Personal Word in a National Crisis) Background Book of Jeremiah – Chapter 45 is only five verses long, yet it carries a powerful and deeply personal message. It is addressed to Baruch son of Neriah, the faithful scribe of Jeremiah. Baruch was the one who wrote down Jeremiah’s prophecies, including messages of judgment against Judah. This word came during a dark time — Jerusalem was heading toward destruction. The nation was collapsing spiritually and politically. Baruch was discouraged. He said: “ Woe is me! For the Lord has added sorrow to my pain; I am weary with my groaning, and I find no rest. ” (Jer. 45:3) Baruch was exhausted — emotionally and spiritually. Perhaps he expected recognition, influence, or stability because he was serving the Lord. But God responded: “I will break down what I have built.” “I will pluck up what I have planted.” “Are you seeking great things for yourself? Many times, certain incidents from David’s life are selectively used in modern Christianity to justify sin, compromise, or unbiblical doctrines. Let me carefully list common misuses seen today — especially in preaching, charismatic circles, leadership culture, and moral theology. David is one of the most loved characters in the Bible. Shepherd → King Worshipper → Warrior Poet → Leader Yet David’s life is often misused today to justify sin, protect corrupt leadership, and distort grace. David’s story is not written to excuse sin, but to warn, correct, and humble us. Many today preach: David’s anointing. David’s worship. David’s victories. But ignore: David’s consequences. David’s broken family. David’s discipline. 2 Timothy 3:16 — All Scripture is profitable. We cannot preach the crown and ignore the cross. 1. “David sinned greatly, but God still called him a man after His own heart ” (1 Samuel 13:14; Acts 13:22) Modern Misuse : “Even if I fall into serious sin, God still sees my heart....

What exactly happened in Saul’s case? 1 Samuel 16:14–23 The Bible says “the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD tormented him.” David played the harp (lyre).
