Sermon: 2 Corinthians 4: “DON’T QUIT — THE GLORY IS HIDDEN IN THE PRESSURE:
INTRODUCTION: THE SILENT STRUGGLE OF MINISTERS
- There are battles no one sees.
- You preach, but feel empty.
- You serve, but feel unseen.
You pray, but heaven feels silent.
Many pastors and evangelists today are not quitting publicly, they are quitting privately.
But listen to the cry of Paul the Apostle:
- “Therefore, since we have this ministry… we do not lose heart.” (4:1)
This is not a motivational line, this is a war cry from a wounded soldier.
1. MINISTRY IS MERCY — NOT A RESULT (v.1)
- “We have this ministry by the mercy of God…”
You are not in ministry because you are strong.
You are in ministry because God showed mercy.
- When you forget mercy, you focus on results.
- When results fail, you feel like a failure.
Truth:
Your calling is not based on your success — it is based on God’s mercy.
So don’t quit what God started just because it became hard.
2. YOU CARRY LIGHT IN A DARK WORLD (v.3–6)
- “The god of this world has blinded the minds…”
You are not failing, you are fighting blindness.
People are not rejecting you, they are spiritually blinded.
And God said:
- “Let light shine out of darkness…”
Your preaching is light.
Your tears are watering unseen seeds.
Even if no one responds, light is still shining.
3. YOU ARE A FRAGILE VESSEL — BUT A POWERFUL ONE (v.7)
- “We have this treasure in jars of clay…”
You feel weak? Good.
You feel broken? Even better.
Because:
- The power is not yours — it is God’s.
- God intentionally chose weak vessels so that:
- No man can take His glory.
Stop trying to be strong.
Be available.
4. PRESSURE IS NOT DESTRUCTION (v.8–9)
- “Pressed… perplexed… persecuted… struck down… but not destroyed!”
Look at the pattern:
- Pressed → Not crushed
- Confused → Not in despair
- Attacked → Not abandoned
- Knocked down → Not destroyed
You may be under pressure — but you are not finished.
The enemy wants you to interpret pressure as rejection.
God says pressure is preparation.
5. YOUR SUFFERING IS PRODUCING LIFE IN OTHERS (v.10–12)
- “Death is at work in us, but life in you.”
This is the painful truth of ministry:
You die daily so others can live.
- Your tears → Someone’s breakthrough
- Your pain → Someone’s healing
- Your sacrifice → Someone’s salvation
Ministry is costly — but it is never wasted.
6. FIX YOUR EYES ON THE INVISIBLE (v.16–18)
- “Therefore we do not lose heart…”
Here is Paul’s secret:
- He didn’t look at what he was going through
- He looked at what God was producing
“Light affliction… is producing eternal glory”
Your suffering is not pointless, it is producing glory you cannot yet see.
What you feel = temporary
What God is doing = eternal
A DIRECT WORD TO PASTORS & EVANGELISTS THINKING TO QUIT
Listen carefully.
If you quit now:
- The souls assigned to you may remain unreached
- The breakthrough is just one step ahead
- The harvest is closer than you think
You are not burned out — you are under attack.
You are not finished — you are in transition.
PROPHETIC DECLARATION
I speak over you:
- Strength in your weakness
- Fire in your spirit
- Vision in your darkness
Hope in your discouragement
- The same God who called you
- Will sustain you
- Will finish what He started
CONCLUSION: DON’T LOSE HEART
Paul repeats it twice (v.1 & v.16):
- “We do not lose heart.”
- Not because life is easy…
- But because glory is coming.
ALTAR CALL (FOR MINISTERS)
If you feel like quitting…
Pray:
- “Lord, I am tired… but I am still Yours.
- I am broken… but I am still called.
- Give me strength to continue.
- I will not quit — because You did not quit on me.”
Don’t quit in chapter 4 — chapter 5 is coming.
(Where glory, eternity, and victory are revealed!)
