SERMON : LOVE vs LUST — Choose Wisely

1. OPENING

“Today, I’m not here to entertain you… I’m here to confront you.”

Youth today don’t struggle with finding love…

They struggle with defining it correctly.

  • What the world calls “love”…
  • God often calls lust.

The question is not: Do you love someone?

The real question is: What kind of love is it?

KEY SCRIPTURES

  • John 13:34 – “Love one another as I have loved you”
  • 1 John 2:16 – “Lust of the flesh… is not from the Father”
  • 1 Corinthians 13:4–7 – Definition of true love

2. WHAT IS LOVE?

Let’s define love biblically, not emotionally.

Love is SACRIFICIAL

Example: Jesus Christ

He didn’t take… He gave

He didn’t demand… He died

Love says: “I will give my life for you.”

Love GIVES, NOT TAKES

  • Love invests
  • Love builds
  • Love protects

If your relationship is draining you spiritually…

It is not love.

Love HONORS

  • Honors God
  • Honors purity
  • Honors boundaries

Love will never push you into sin.

“If it pulls you away from God, it is not love — no matter how strong it feels.”

3. WHAT IS LUST? 

Now let’s expose the truth.

Lust TAKES

It asks: “What can I get?”

Not: “What can I give?”

Lust CONSUMES

Example: Samson and Delilah

Samson lost his strength, destiny, and calling

Lust doesn’t just touch your emotions…

It destroys your future.

Lust DECEIVES

Example: David and Bathsheba

One moment of desire…

Lifelong consequences

Lust always begins sweet… but ends bitter.

“Lust promises pleasure… but delivers pain.”

4. LOVE vs LUST — CLEAR COMPARISON

LOVE --->. LUST

Sacrifices -> Takes

Gives -> Uses

Honors -> Dishonors

Waits -> Rushes

Builds future -> Destroys destiny

God-centered -> Self-centered

5. WHY YOUTH FALL INTO LUST

Let’s be real.

1. Wrong Definition of Love

Movies, Instagram, reels — all fake standards

2. Lack of Accountability

Secret relationships = dangerous relationships

3. Emotional Loneliness

You’re not in love…

You’re just empty and searching

“Loneliness can push you into the wrong arms.”

6. HOW TO WALK IN TRUE LOVE

✅ 1. Put God First

Example: Ruth and Boaz

Ruth chased God → Boaz came

👉 Stop chasing people… start chasing God.

✅ 2. Set Boundaries

Physical

Emotional

Digital

👉 If there are no boundaries… there will be no purity.

✅ 3. Be Spirit-Led, Not Feeling-Led

Feelings change.

Truth doesn’t.

“A God-led relationship will never lead you into sin.”

7. ALTAR CALL 

Close your eyes…

There are some of you here…

You’re in a relationship you know is wrong

You’ve crossed boundaries

You’re calling lust “love” to justify your choices

But today… God is calling you back.

✝️ Remember:

Jesus Christ didn’t die for your temporary pleasure…

He died for your eternal purity and purpose

🙏 CALL TO RESPONSE

If you say:

“Lord, I want real love, not fake love”

“I want purity, not compromise”

“I want Your will, not my feelings”

👉 Lift your hands right now.

🙏 PRAYER

“Lord Jesus,

I surrender my heart to You.

Forgive me for calling lust love.

Cleanse my mind, my body, my desires.

Teach me to love like You love.

Give me the strength to walk in purity.

From today, I choose LOVE over LUST.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

“Don’t just fall in love…

Fall in truth.”
